Move-out cleaning checklist for Bay Area renters
A room-by-room move-out cleaning checklist to help renters prepare an empty home for inspection.
Start with the kitchen
Empty and wipe every cabinet and drawer, clean the sink, degrease the stovetop and range hood, and clean inside the oven and refrigerator if your lease requires it.
Bathrooms
Descale the shower and tub, clean the toilet including the base, polish mirrors and fixtures, and wipe inside vanity drawers.
Floors, walls and trim
Wipe baseboards, door frames and light switches, spot-clean walls where allowed, then vacuum and mop every room last.
Before you hand back keys
Walk through with your lease's move-out terms, photograph each room, and note anything you could not fix.
